Big Boy Vitamin

Today, we ran out of the liquid children's vitamins that Trey has been taking since birth. So we tried half a Flintstone's vitamin. To our suprise, Trey chewed it up and wanted more. This is really good news on two fronts. We had tried this earlier and he wanted nothing to do with it. Also, Flintstone's are cheaper than the liquid vitamins.

The value of a schedule

Yes, I've heard and read about it, but until you actually do it, it doesn't sink in. Children need to have a schedule. Last weekend we started Trey on a scheduled nap time. He now takes his nap every day at 2:00pm. He complains a little, but it is more a perfunctorily complaint than an actual complaint. Next we will be working on scheduled bed time, lunch and dinner. This will make his life and ours much more enjoyable. With him taking scheduled naps I am more likely to see him awake when I get home. Before this he would end up falling asleep when Cherie and he got in the car to pick me up from the train station.

Jammy Jamboree

Tonight the Evergreen Park Library held a Jammy Jamboree. Kids grade 1 and under went to the library in the PJs to hear stories and sing songs. Trey and I attended this function. Everything started out well. Trey and I got there a few minutes early and played with the puzzles. When the stories began, Trey was a little shy so I sat on the floor with him. It wasn't long before Trey spied something he wanted to look at. Another kid had brought an Elmo toy with him. Trey began to crawl over towards the other kid on his stomach. My cousins would be proud. He looked like he was in the Army crawling on his belly over the hilltop, sneaky as can be. Later as the lady was telling the story, Trey would go up front, winding his way through the other kids, to look at the items she had brought with her, and the pictures in the book. He would then run back to me with a big grin on his face. While this was going on there were two other girls who kept not paying attention to the stories and giggling and getting in general trouble. "Bunny's" Mom kept asking her daughter to keep quite. We then got to the singing and dancing part of the evening. Most of the kids would dance in place, and generally follow the lady leading the whole thing. Trey of course danced in his normal way by running around in circles, weaving between each of the kids. After two iterations of the song, came a couple more books. This is where Trey got in trouble. He, Bunny and the other girl were running around the back of the library. This was the second time that Bunny had done this. (Bunny's Mom had retrieved her the first time.) This time I went back there and found Trey and had a talk with him telling him that he needed to join the other kids and sit down and listen to the story. He agreed and proceeded to go to where the rest of the kids where and provoke the other kids. Never once sitting down. I once more told him that he needed to sit down and be quite. He didn't so we had to leave early. Now the frustrating part is Trey left gladly. It didn't even bother him. Although that made it easier to leave, I don't think he realized that he had done wrong and was being punished to an extent. Aaaaggghhh! So far I am raising a bully. He provoked other kids by trying to take their toys. They of course didn't give them up and their parents had to correct them. He tells me what I want to hear, just so he can get away and do what he wants to do, even if that is exactly what I told him not to do. Oh the joys of parenthood.

Trey's View

For his third birthday, Trey received a simple digital camera. The idea behind this, is that it really doesn't cost much more than a simple film camera, and he can take as many pictures as he wants.

Well today, we debut the first installment of Trey's View. These are pictures taken by Trey's camera. there are times that the pictures were not taken by Trey. His grandfather Barry, took about five of the pictures.

We did no editing of the pictures. The thought being, this is his pictures and as he gets better and more coordinated, so will the pictures.

Enjoy

Piglets Big Movie

Today we went to see
Piglets Big Movie.

Trey had a good time. He had his own popcorn and drink. He covered his ears when it was too loud and watched the whole thing with earnest attention.

It was a good thing we went to the noon showing because he fell asleep in the car soon after we left the move.

Pre - Finding Nemo

Today we are going to see Finding Nemo. Trey has been talking about seeing this for three weeks.

Cherie picked up a sticker book on the movie earlier this week. She and Trey read all the picture captions and placed all the stickers in their right place. Trey probably knows more about this picture now, than I do.

It should be real fun, tell you about it later.

Soccer

Today Trey attended his first ever soccer practice. It was originally scheduled for yesterday, but the coaches son had an accident requireing some stiches. (Everyone is okay now.)

It was funny watching all these four year olds trying to learn soccer. Not only were they learning soccer, but they were learning about staying in line, going to the end of the line when your turn is done. You know all those social rules that kids learn at this age.

Trey had a lot of fun. Especially for having just awaken from a half hour nap.

After practice, we visited K-Mart for a soccer ball, some cones and shin gaurds. They require kids at this age to wear shin gaurds. Seems, they kick everything but the ball.

Putt Putt and Go Karts

One of Trey's things to do over summer break was to go Putt Putting. We didn't quite make it before he had to go back to school, but those first two days they don't do much.

Of course one of the highlights are the go karts. Trey is still a little too short, so he had to ride with me. Probably a good thing, since he doesn't know how to steer very well.

We even had our very own race fan.

Elementary Cross Country

Tonight Trey participated in the Northern Wells Elementary Cross Country race. He's never done this before, but thought it would be fun. I wasn't able to attend, but heard later that he had a great time. He completed the half mile race.

I'm so very proud of him.
